Weekend 2: Falling for Trees in the Shade of Fire

A Poetry Workshop with Tonya Lailey and Sarah Arthurs

Where do we put our grief for trees lost to climate change induced wildfires?

One way in and through may be to lean into our love for the trees around us, the ones right here. We’ll take Poet Mary Oliver’s instructions for life to heart as we bring our senses to Calgary trees:

Be Astonished. Pay Attention. Tell Someone,

We’ll read poems belonging to the vast poetic tradition of praising trees. We’ll write poems together. We’ll share what we write.

When forests fall, who hears them?

When people fall for trees, who hears them?

Everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be a poet or to have written a poem. You need only be willing to be in the trees.
